Was privileged enough to visit an amazing place on the earth yesterday, The Green School, in Bali. The visit was part of an OgilvyOne leadership group initiative.
The theme of our two days together is ‘remarkable’. It’s hard to think of a more apt description of this place.
.
Putting aside it’s amazing credentials in terms of sustainability and ‘responsible learning’ - which in itself is highly impressive - what also stands out is what happens when a BIG vision is very well executed.

As you’ll see in the photos, The Green School was initiated on the back of a very big idea. An incredibly ambitious project that has been pulled together in less than three years. This ‘campus’ is in the middle of a jungle, in the middle of nowhere. It presently has 243 students, from 60 countries, and is growing (International media from the BBC, CNBC, ABC and others has helped).
While there is a commercial side to the story, you can’t take away from what’s been achieved here. Everything you see is designed and created out of self sustaining materials (a lot of Bamboo!). From the space they learn in, to the seats they sit on, to the food they eat at lunch time. Everything.

The effect on people, and the ‘remarkability’, is the power of a pure vision seen through to a wonderful completion. It is a pure, non compromised approach and it shows.
The lesson for me is pretty clear. Think big, believe in yourself and have the passion and commitment to see things through. If you can do this anything is possible.
